Cyclingnews: Landis reported to have worn wire in meeting with Michael Ball

→この春にLandisが元Rock RacingオーナーのMichael Ball住居を訪問。だが、LandisはFDA(連邦食品医薬局)から預かった盗聴器と隠しビデオカメラを持ち込んでいた。映像にはMichael Ball宅に保管されていたドーピング薬品がしっかりと記録されていたため、捜査令状発行の手がかりになった模様。

Jeff Novitzky is currently leading an investigation into doping in American cycling, which is believed to be centred on the US Postal Service team. In May of this year, Landis outlined a series of alleged doping practices that took place during his time at the team.

FDAで捜査指揮をとっているのはJeff Navitzky氏。連邦政府レベルで捜査が行われているのは...Team US Postalが捜査の対象だからだろう。

米国にはWhistleblower Lawというものがあり、連邦政府に損失を与えた犯罪の捜査に協力する人は:

• 例えその犯罪に関わっていたとしても罪を問われない
• その犯罪をしていた人・集団からは保護される
• 奪回した損失の一部を報奨金として与えられる

という特典が得られる。
Team US Postalを支援していたUSPSはGSE(政府支援機関)なので、当然Whistleblower Lawの対象となる。
